The Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing the completion of another successful regular season, having already clinched home-field advantage through the National League portion of the postseason while reaching the century mark in wins for a second time in three years.
With a stressful month of October looming, various Dodgers have taken some of the edge off by participating in fun activities this month. A trio of rookies in Matt Beaty, Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May recently played the baseball version of “Never Have I Ever” hosted by BuzzFeed.
Meanwhile, other Dodgers including Cody Bellinger, Walker Buehler and Justin Turner were also on hand to participate in a blindfold taste test put together by the media company.
The competition was split into two teams of three: Bellinger, Buehler and Kenta Maeda represented Team 1. Team 2 consisted of Rich Hill, Kristopher Negrón and Justin Turner.
The objective for each group was to correctly guess the most ingredients in the three dishes served to them. The squad of Bellinger, Buehler and Maeda were first tasked with identifying what was on their plate.
Bellinger had the unfortunate responsibility of tasting a concoction of onions, marshmallows and jalapeños. Even though he wasn’t a fan of the dish, the 2019 NL MVP candidate was right on the money and correctly pointed out each ingredient.
Buehler’s dish was more expansive, as it contained a hot dog covered with gummy bears, popcorn and sriracha sauce. Like Bellinger, he was able to easily highlight each of the foods.
Maeda’s plate only featured three ingredients: popcorn, jalapeños and pretzels. Following in the steps of his teammates, he correctly guessed each of them, giving Team 1 a perfect score of 10.
After completing the tasting portion of the contest, Bellinger, Buehler and Maeda attempted to turn the tables by serving equally disgusting dishes to their counterparts.
Negrón was presented a hamburger with unusual toppings: bits of Pop-Tarts, Skittles, Cinnamon Twists, gummy bears and popcorn. He correctly identified each of the six ingredients with relative ease, admitting afterward that he enjoyed the taste.
Turner was additionally distributed a hamburger covered in gummy bears and sriracha sauce. After a handful of incorrect guesses, he was able to eventually solve each ingredient.
As for Hill, he was served a hot dog in a bun with relish and grapes. With the exception of the latter, the left-hander guessed each of the other foods, giving Team 2 a winning score of 12.
