Commissioner Rob Manfred awarded the 2028 MLB All-Star Game to the San Francisco Giants, who will host the annual event and accompanying festivities at Oracle Park.
“Major League Baseball is pleased to award the 2028 All-Star Game to the San Francisco Giants,” Manfred said in a statement. “With its passionate fanbase, world-class ballpark, and rich baseball history, San Francisco will be an outstanding host for All-Star Week, which culminates in one of Major League Baseball’s best traditions, the Midsummer Classic.
“We look forward to bringing the excitement of All-Star Week and the celebration of baseball to the Bay Area.”
The Giants hosting the All-Star Game in 2028 had long appeared to be a likely choice, particularly with the Summer Olympics taking place in Los Angeles and baseball returning as an official sport.
It’s going to mark the franchise’s fourth time playing host to the Midsummer Classic, and the second held at Oracle Park. The Giants previously hosted the All-Star Game at Candlestick Park in 1961 and 1984.
“The San Francisco Giants are incredibly honored to host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game at Oracle Park. We’re thrilled to welcome the baseball world to San Francisco and showcase our city, our organization, and our incredible fans,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said.
“We’re grateful to Major League Baseball for this opportunity and look forward to creating an unforgettable All-Star experience for fans from San Francisco and around the world.”
Oracle Park (2007, 2028) is poised to become the eighth active ballpark to host an All-Star Game multiple times, joining
Fenway Park (1946, 1961, 1999), Wrigley Field (1947, 1962, 1990), Angel Stadium (1967, 1989, 2010), Dodger Stadium (1980, 2022), Progressive Field (1997, 2019), Coors Field (1998, 2021), and T-Mobile Park (2001, 2023).
In the 2007 game, Ichiro Suzuki hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star history en route to earning MVP honors.
