Dodgers Injury Updates: Tyler Glasnow & Blake Treinen Pitch To Batters, Blake Snell’s Rehab Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff has been plagued by injuries this season, but several key contributors could be on the verge of returning.

The club recently welcomed back Edwin Díaz, and Blake Snell is nearing the end of his rehab assignment. Moreover, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Treinen each faced hitters at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday in live batting practice sessions.

Glasnow threw two innings in what represented his second time throwing to hitters in the past week. Meanwhile, Treinen pitched one inning in what was his first time facing batters since landing on the injured list in June due to right elbow inflammation.

“I was actually in some meetings, so I didn’t get a chance to put eyes on them,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “But from what I hear from the pitching guys, both guys were really good. Tyler was two innings, and then Blake (Treinen) threw an inning, and they both came out of it well.

“So my assumption is Tyler’s going to go out on assignment and build up from there. And obviously tonight’s a big night for Blake (Snell) to get through four innings and see where we go from there.”

Snell did end up getting through four innings in his rehab start on Wednesday afternoon. The left-hander recorded eight strikeouts while allowing just one hit.

The expectation is that Glasnow will soon begin a rehab assignment as he works his way back to the Dodgers. The right-hander has been sidelined for nearly three months due to lower back spasms.

Treinen appears to be farther away from returning as he will likely need at least one more batting practice session before potentially going on a rehab assignment.

Andrew Friedman optimistic about Dodgers’ injuries

As the Dodgers get healthier, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman discussed how that could affect the team’s plans at the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

“Yeah, I think for each guy, it’s going through it on an individual level,” Friedman began. “Obviously, Edwin’s back, Kiké [Hernández] yesterday, and then it’s kind of each guy. Where Snell is in his progression, Blake Treinen, Glasnow throwing a live, and what their injuries are, and where it is currently.

“And I think with each of those guys, the injury part of it is healed. Now it’s about the progression. It’s about the build-up to get them back. Blake Snell, he’s made a rehab outing. Glass will soon do that. Blake Treinen as well. And then Will Smith, feel good about where we’re going in each day, getting better, and really building back up to get him on a progression to get back.

“So the good news is for each of them, the injury part of it is behind us, and now it’s about how to build up and get them back. And we talk about this a lot with guys coming back from injury. It’s get them back to stay back, not get them back as quickly as we can, but get them back to stay back.

“And so that is kind of what we are messing with. But as far as them coming back, we feel really good about it, and it’s balancing all of that, which we have had to do a number of Julys of thinking through that. But feel really good about the talent base we have in place, not just on field, but also how the group meshes together.”
