The Los Angeles Dodgers past the Atlanta Braves for the most wins in baseball by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The victory also clinched a series win for the Dodgers, and they now will look to complete a sweep Wednesday afternoon.
Offense was at a premium until none other than Shohei Ohtani gave the Dodgers their decided lead. The Dodgers improved to 10-10 in one-run games this season.
Dodgers 1, Rays 0: key takeaways
Justin Wrobleski’s start
Wrobleski started Tuesday night on ‘regular’ rest (four days) for the first time this season and became just the second Dodgers pitcher to do so in 2026. It was also his first outing since being hit by a comebacker last week.
Wrobleski scattered three hits over six shutout innings. He finished with five strikeouts and threw just 67 pitches. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts seemingly took a proactive approach in ending Wrobleski’s night at the six frames.
The left-hander went into the night already having set a career high in innings pitched (73.1). Prior to this season, Wrobleski’s high was the 66.2 innings he threw last year.
Dodgers bunt troubles
Back-to-back singles by Kyle Tucker and Ryan Ward put runners at the corners with one out in the second inning. However, Alex Freeland’s bunt attempt backfired despite Drew Rasmussen throwing over to second base.
Taylor Walls stepped in front of the bag to field the throw and fired home in time to get Tucker on his attempt to score from third base.
Shohei Ohtani delivers
The scoreless game was finally broken up in the bottom of the sixth inning on Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff home run. The homer was Ohtani’s fifth in his last nine games.
Prior to that, Ohtani was 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in his career against Rasmussen. It snapped Rasmussen’s scoreless streak in the month of June at 22 innings over parts of three starts. It wound up being the only run he allowed over seven strong innings.
Ohtani is expected to make his pitching start in the series finale despite missing a game late last week because of left knee inflammation. Roberts said prior to Tuesday’s game that the swelling in Ohtani’s knee had fully “dissipated.”
Bullpen relay
Will Klein received help from his defense turning a double play but otherwise was relatively effective on his second night of a back-to-back. Kyle Hurt also pitched for the second game in a row and retired the side in order in the eighth inning — with the help of Mookie Betts.
Tanner Scott made it a trifecta by pitching for the second night in a row as well, and he converted his ninth save of the year.
