The Los Angeles Dodgers got another brilliant performance from a starting pitcher and had their offense come through with four home runs to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 7-2, and clinch a series win while setting up the chance for a sweep on Wednesday.
Emmet Sheehan was on the mound, and for the third time in the last week, the Dodgers took a no-hitter deep into the game as he joined Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow in accomplishing that. Sheehan retired the first 15 batters he faced to get through five perfect innings.
It was broken up in the sixth on a leadoff single by Kyle Karros, which ultimately led to the Rockies scoring their only run on another single from Tyler Freeman.
Sheehan remained in the game and ended up providing the Dodgers with another scoreless inning, despite walking a batter. The right-hander finished his night going seven innings, allowing one run on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
The Dodgers’ offense got Sheehan an early lead to work with, scoring in the second inning on a wild pitch after Will Smith reached on a double and advanced on a fly out by Max Muncy.
This was also just the second game back for Muncy, who returned from the IL on Monday, and Smith was back in the lineup after missing the previous few games with a hand injury.
In the third inning, Shohei Ohtani worked a two-out walk, and he came around to score when Mookie Betts slugged his 17th homer of the season. That put the Dodgers up 3-0.
Teoscar Hernández blasted a solo homer in the fourth inning to further extend the lead. The Dodgers also added their fifth run in the fifth inning when Andy Pages reached on a single and scored on a single from Shohei Ohtani.
Freddie Freeman added some insurance in the eighth win a solo homer of his own, his 20th of the season, putting the Dodgers up by five. Hernández also blasted his second homer of the night, another solo homer, to extend their lead to 7-1.

After Sheehan, Alex Vesia took over in the eighth inning, marking his first appearance since returning off the injured list earlier in the day. He gave them a perfect inning while striking out two.
Kirby Yates pitched the ninth, allowing a solo home run to Hunter Goodman as his issues preventing the long ball continued. Yates also allowed a double after the homer, But he still recorded the final out to finish off the game.
