Mookie Betts ‘Encouraged’ By Dodgers’ Close Losses

The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Los Angeles Angels with a crushing 6-5 loss on Wednesday and now have fallen a full game behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West standings.

The latest defeat extended the Dodgers’ losing streak to four games, three of which were only by one run. While these kind of losses can be debilitating for a team, Mookie Betts is looking at things from a positive lens.

“It just depends on your perspective,” he began. “For me, it’s encouraging to know we’re giving ourselves a chance to win every night. It’s not like we’re going out there and just laying eggs.

“We’re going out there and doing what we can, and just falling short right now. Who knows? In a couple days it could be opposite.”

It’s no secret that the Dodgers have struggled for the better part of the last month, but Betts believes they are getting closer to righting the ship, especially with the team trending upward health-wise.

“For sure. We’re constantly giving ourselves chances to win,” Betts said. “Right now that’s really all we can ask for.

“Obviously we would love to win all these games, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Like I said, we’ve just got to turn the page and get ready for San Diego.”

Mookie Betts: Dodgers can’t overreact to Padres series

The Dodgers are now set to play the Padres six times over the next 10 days in two series that should have major implications on the NL West race. However, Betts emphasized the importance of the team not losing sight of the bigger picture.

“We know it’s big, but it kind of is what it is. We can’t make it more than it is. It’s another series in August, obviously we all know it’s big and X, Y and Z, but we can’t look at it that way,” he said.

“We have to look at it as the same game as today, play our game and not try and be too high or too low.”
