Dodgers Roster: J.P. Feyereisen Recalled, Yoendrys Gómez Designated For Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled J.P. Feyereisen from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated Yoendrys Gómez for assignment.

The Dodgers claimed Gómez off waivers from the New York Yankees last month and added him to their active roster one day later. It was the first time he was part of an organization outside of the Yankees after signing with them as an international amateur free agent out of Venezuela in 2016.

Things did not work out for Gómez in L.A. and it led to a short stay for the 25-year-old.

In 4.1 innings, Gómez posted an ERA of 14.54 with a 7.68 FIP while striking out 12.46 hitters per nine and walking 4.15 batters per nine over three games. Since he was activated, no pitcher on the Dodgers allowed more runs than his seven. Gómez was tied with Dustin May, though he pitched 6.2 more innings than the reliever.

Gómez made his final appearance with the Dodgers on Monday when he entered a 7-1 game in the eighth. He exited after giving up a three-run homer and only recording one out.

It was the second time Gómez turned a significant late lead into a close game for the Dodgers. He previously allowed four runs in one inning to the Marlins on April 30 in a 12-7 victory.

As a player on the roster primarily to eat innings, he was not able to get his job done, which seemingly led to the Dodgers moving on.

Gómez is now removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and they have seven days to trade him or release him. If he clears outright waivers, the Dodgers can assign Gómez to the Minor Leagues, which seems to be the most likely outcome.

J.P. Feyereisen back with Dodgers

Feyereisen is back with the Dodgers after spending the 2024 season with the organization. He originally joined the franchise in December 2022, when the Dodgers traded Minor League pitcher Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays for Feyereisen, who at the time was facing a prolonged recovery from right shoulder surgery.

Overall in 2024, the right-hander went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 10 appearances for the Dodgers that were spread across multiple stints as he filled an organizational depth role. While with Oklahoma City that same season, Feyereisen was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts).

Feyereisen became a free agent during the offseason and went on to sign a Minor League contract with the Diamondbacks. He joined their roster on April 19 but was designated for assignment just over one week later.

Feyereisen allowed two runs over two innings pitched across two games during the brief stint with Arizona.

He provides the club with an extra arm before likely getting optioned on Wednesday when the Dodgers are scheduled for another bullpen game.
