Dodgers Roster: J.P. Feyereisen Claimed Off Waivers, Ryan Loutos Acquired Via Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired two new relief pitchers on Thursday by claiming J.P. Feyereisen off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks and completing a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for Ryan Loutos. St. Louis received cash considerations in the trade.

Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen were both transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for
Feyereisen and Loutos on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

For Feyereisen, it marks a return to the organization he spent the 2024 season with. He originally joined the franchise in December 2022, when the Dodgers traded Minor League pitcher Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays for Feyereisen, who at the time was facing a prolonged recovery from right shoulder surgery.

Sure enough, Feyereisen didn’t pitch at all during the 2023 season but was included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series.

Overall in 2024, the right-hander went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 10 appearances for the Dodgers that were spread across multiple stints as he filled an organizational depth role. While with Triple-A Oklahoma City that same season, Feyereisen was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts).

Feyereisen became a free agent during the offseason and went on to sign a Minor League contract with the Diamondbacks. He joined their roster on April 19 as part of multiple changes the Diamondbacks made within their bullpen.

The Diamondbacks then designated Feyereisen for assignment just over one week later as part of calling up Scott McGough. He allowed two runs over two innings pitched across two games during the brief stint with Arizona.

Loutos also joins the Dodgers shortly after getting DFA’D. The right-hander hade his MLB debut with the Cardinals last season and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings over three appearances.

While with Triple-A Memphis this season, Loutos had a 3.38 ERA in eight games. He signed with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

Dodgers bullpen a concern

It stands to reason Feyereisen or Loutos, if not both, will factor into the Dodgers’ pitching plans at some point during their 10-game road trip that begins Monday.

Although manager Dave Roberts said the bullpen was reset because of Tony Gonsolin’s six innings and an off day Thursday, he previously mentioned the heavy reliance on relief pitchers was his biggest concern so far.
