The Los Angeles Dodgers’ streak of winning at least 100 games was snapped after a loss Saturday to the Colorado Rockies. They won’t be alone as MLB is going without a 100-win team during a full season for the first time since 2014.
The Dodgers reached 100 wins in each of the last three years and four consecutive full seasons, becoming the only team in MLB history to accomplish such feat.
The streak began when the Dodgers won a then-franchise record 106 games in 2019. They matched that mark two years later before setting a new Dodgers record with 111 wins in 2022.
The only year during that stretch in which the Dodgers did not reach 100 wins was 2020 due to the shortened 60-game season caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. L.A. won 43 games that year, which translates to a 116-win pace over 162 games.
The Dodgers at one point appeared on their way to reaching 100 wins this season, but injuries derailed them down the stretch. Specifically in the starting rotation, with Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw and Gavin Stone all being sidelined over recent weeks.
Glasnow has since been ruled out for the year, and there’s uncertainty with Kershaw and Stone.
The Dodgers are still on track to clinch a postseason berth for the 12th consecutive year and may also win another National League West title, which would be their 11th since 2013.
The Dodgers have a chance to finish with the best record in the Majors as well. Even with their latest loss, the Dodgers are just two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies.
If L.A. finishes with one of the top two records in the NL, they will clinch a first-round bye in the postseason and advance straight to the NL Division Series.
The Dodgers have done so in each of the past two seasons under the expanded playoffs format, but were eliminated in the NLDS both times.
Dodgers magic number
The Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the NL West title this season remains five heading into play Sunday. They are only three games ahead of the San Diego Padres as a high-stakes series looms at Dodger Stadium this week.
