The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies play the finale of their three-game series at Coors Field with nothing on line as the 2024 regular season has reached its final day.
The Rockies have long fallen out of postseason contention, while the Dodgers secured the No. 1 seed in the National League and also the best record in baseball on Saturday. Thus, they have home-field advantage through the World Series.
Anthony Banda takes the mound Sunday afternoon to fill an opener role ahead of Landon Knack. While Knack was named to the Dodgers’ rotation for the NL Division Series, manager Dave Roberts left open the possibility that he would pitch bulk innings out of the bullpen instead of making a traditional start.
Sunday’s game is Knack’s 15th appearance for the Dodgers this season. He’s made 12 starts.
The Rockies counter with Ryan Feltner, who is 3-10 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 29 starts this season. Feltner struggled in a start against the Dodgers on June 19, when he allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings.
He faces a lineup that includes Shohei Ohtani playing the season out amid a late push to catch the San Diego Padres’ Luis Arraez in batting average for a triple crown. Odds are not in Ohtani’s favor, but Roberts made it clear heading into the weekend that he would continue playing his All-Star.
Prior to the game the Dodgers recalled James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Justin Wrobleski. Outman joining the Dodgers roster gives them added coverage in the wake of Kevin Kiermaier suffering a dislocated left ring finger.
The Dodgers still are short in terms of position players as Freddie Freeman (sprained right ankle) and Miguel Rojas (left adductor) did not travel with the team.
Sunday is the final game of Charlie Blackmon’s career. He spent all 14 seasons with the Rockies.
