The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the No. 1 seed in the National League and also are guaranteed to finish with the best record in baseball, which amounts to having home-field advantage through the 2024 World Series.

The Dodgers went into the penultimate day of the regular season needing one more win or the Philadelphia Phillies to lose one of their two remaining games in order to secure the best record in the NL and baseball. Philadelphia held the head-to-head tiebreaker, but they ended up losing to the Washington Nationals.

This is a 12th consecutive season the Dodgers are playing postseason baseball. The NL West title was their 11th during that span.

Prior to their current stretch, the Dodgers had not reached the playoffs more than two years in a row. The Dodgers’ 12 consecutive postseason berths is the third-longest streak in MLB history.

By previously having earned a first-round bye in the postseason, the Dodgers were guaranteed to host the NL Division Series at Dodger Stadium with Game 1 on Saturday, Oct. 5, and Game 2 scheduled for Oct. 6. If necessary, the NLDS would return to Los Angeles for Game 5 on Friday, Oct. 11.

If the Dodgers advance to the NL Championship Series, Game 1 would be at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 13. Game 2 is the following day, and if necessary, Games 6 and 7 would be Oct. 20 and 21, respectively.

The Dodgers reaching the World Series would mean hosting Game 1 on Friday, Oct. 25. Game 2 of the World Series is set for Oct. 26.

If necessary, the Fall Classic would return to Dodger Stadium for Game 6 on Friday, Nov. 1, and Game 7 is scheduled Nov. 2.

The Dodgers have home-field advantage through the World Series for a second time in the past three years. They also had it in 2017 and 2020, reaching the World Series in both instances and winning it once.

Dodgers postseason plans

With a five-day break before their playoff schedule begins, the Dodgers are planning a full off day Monday and voluntary workout on Tuesday.

Players then will begin official NLDS workouts at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
