Walker Buehler attempted a late-season comeback, but ultimately did not pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023 while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery.

The right-hander began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City in early September and pitched to encouraging results, but plans for a second start were cancelled when Buehler announced a return this season was no longer being pursued.

Despite not making it back to the Majors, Buehler remained active as a weekly guest on the “Just Baseball Show” podcast.

The 29-year-old said on a recent episode that he enjoyed discussing some of the sport’s biggest topics this year:

“I think I enjoyed it. I guess everyone that is listening should like, comment, and all that stuff, to see if we want to keep this going. I’ve enjoyed it, man. It’s kind of been a fun way to get my head out of not playing. It’s not half bad.”

Throughout the 2023 season, Buehler has offered much appreciated insight from a player’s perspective, including when the Dodgers were eliminated by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series.

He said the youthful Diamondbacks roster got the best of the Dodgers in the NLDS, and cited Arizona’s starting pitchers as being key to their success this season.

Buehler has also praised the Philadelphia Phillies, Zack Wheeler and Corey Seager at different points of the postseason.

Walker Buehler names best playoff atmospheres

After Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium drew over 51,000 fans, Buehler named Truist Park and American Family Field as two of the best playoff atmospheres, while also giving props to Wrigley Field.

Buehler pitched in Atlanta and Milwaukee during the playoffs of his rookie season in 2018 and experienced firsthand how loud the fans were.
