2023 MLB Postseason Schedule: Wild Card Round To World Series Dates & Bracket

The 2023 MLB postseason schedule begins Tuesday, October 3, with the Wild Card Series that are part of the expanded playoffs agreed to for the 2022-2026 collective bargaining agreement. That calls for 12 teams again making the postseason, with eight playing a Wild Card Series (best of three).

The top two division winners in the National League and American League receive the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the playoff bracket and await opponents that will emerge from the Wild Card round.

All Wild Card games are going to air nationally on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

Game 1 for both the AL Division Series and NL Division Series is scheduled for Saturday, October 7. Both ALDS matchups conclude by October 13, and the NLDS extend to October 14 if a Game 5 is necessary for either.

The NLDS schedule includes a bit of a quirk with off days after Games 1 and 2, and a potential Game 4. The ALDS schedule only has traditional off days following Game 2 and possible Game 4.

Fox/FS1 will carry all ALDS games, while the two NLDS are going to be exclusively broadcast by TBS.

Game 1 of the NL Championship Series is on for Monday, October 16. The AL Championship Series begins a day prior. If the NLCS reaches a Game 7, that is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24.

All ALCS games will air on Fox or FS1, with TBS remaining the exclusive home for the NLCS.

The 2023 World Series begins Friday, Oct. 27. Should it go to a Game 7, that would be played Saturday, November 4. All World Series games will be televised nationally by Fox, with Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis in his second year as the network’s lead voice after replacing Joe Buck.

MLB expanded playoffs format

Among the 12 teams for the expanded postseason format, the top two seeds in each league receive a first-round bye and begin their playoffs with the DS.

The team with the third-best record in each league faces the No. 6 seed in a Wild Card Series, while the No. 4 seed plays the No. 5 team. The highest-seeded team hosts all games in the best-of-3 Wild Card Series.

The lowest Wild Card round winner then faces the team with the best league record in the DS. The highest-seeded Wild Card team to advance faces the No. 2 seed.
