The Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Andy Pages and Jonny DeLuca were both to Triple-A Oklahoma City this week and they made their debut at the highest level of the Minor Leagues on Tuesday.
Pages, the Dodgers’ No. 6 prospect and No. 66 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, started in right field and batted fifth against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. DeLuca, the Dodgers’ No. 20 prospect, started in left field and hit seventh.
Pages went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk, and he was later replaced in the game by Justin Yurchak. DeLuca also had an 0-for-3 night with a walk, but he ended up scoring a run.
Prior to their promotions, both performed well at Double-A Tulsa.
Pages hit .284/.430/.495 with three home runs, 12 doubles, 25 RBI and 23 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 109 at-bats. DeLuca batted .279/.380/.590 with 10 home runs, eight doubles, 18 RBI, 29 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 122 at-bats.
Of the two, DeLuca seems more likely to reach the Major League level this season, but both were added to the Dodgers 40-man roster this offseason.
DeLuca has above-average power and good speed with quality defense at all three outfield spots. The 24-year-old was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Oregon.
Pages could possibly make his MLB debut this year, but his timeline seems more focused on 2024. The 22-year-old has plus-power with an elite arm and above-average defense in right field. However, there is a lot of swing-and-miss to his game, which is the case for many young power hitters.
Pages signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent out of Cuba during the 2017 international signing period.
Michael Busch, another one of the Dodgers’ top prospects, also started for OKC during the game. He went 1-for-4 with a walk while playing second base. The Dodgers are having the 25-year-old work on his defense at multiple positions while in the Minors, including second base and the corner infield spots.
He is hitting .327/.455/.510 with three home runs, nine doubles, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored over 98 plate appearances.
OKC ended up winning the game by a score of 4-3 on a walk-off RBI single from Luke Williams in the bottom of the ninth inning. They lead the Pacific Coast League with a 29-11 record.
Gavin Stone shows strikeout ability with OKC Dodgers
After being scratched from his last outing for an undisclosed reason, which was presumably related to the health of Noah Syndergaard or the status of Clayton Kershaw, Gavin Stone was back on the mound for OKC.
The right-hander pitched 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and three runs (two earned) with three walks, but he also struck out 10 hitters.
Stone has made eight starts for OKC, going 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and striking out 41 hitters in just 35.2 innings.
