Andy Pages and Jose Ramos are among the seven Los Angeles Dodgers prospects on the Glendale Desert Dogs rosters for the 2022 Arizona Fall League, and during that time, they have pushed each other to improve.
Although the two are the same age and have taken similar paths, this is their first time being teammates. Ramos spent the 2022 Minor League season with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes, while Pages played the year with Double-A Tulsa.
Ramos was originally signed out of Panama in 2018, and at the time, he was compared to Pages, who was inked out of Cuba in the same season. However, Pages immediately joined the Dodgers organization and began to play in 2018, whereas Ramos didn’t make his North American debut until 2019.
But after Ramos came to make his debut in the Dodgers organization, he was compared to Pages, and he took that as a compliment and tried to emulate his game, via Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com:
“When I came to the United States, they compared me to him,” Ramos said. “I thought that was good for me and I try to be like him.”
Although Pages is ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 5 prospect and No. 66 in baseball, that hasn’t stopped him from taking advice from Ramos, who is the Dodgers’ No. 8 prospect:
“He’s helping me and has more experience than me. Anything he tells me, I try to take it as a positive thing and try to do it.”
Some teammates often push each other to improve through competition, as was seen with Freddie Freeman and Trea Turner this season in the race to be MLB’s hits leader, Ramos and Pages have just been enjoying playing as teammates and bringing out the best in each other through their friendship:
“We don’t compete with each other. We’re just having fun and doing the best we can,” Ramos echoed.
Ramos hit a combined .249/.339/.479 with 22 doubles, 25 home runs and 97 RBI while playing for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes. Pages spent all of 2022 with Double-A Tulsa Drillers, where he batted .236/.336/.468 with 29 doubles, 26 home runs and 80 RBI in 132 games.
Pages is likely closer to making his MLB debut, but Ramos impressed during this past Spring Training and has continued to rapidly rise through the system.
Andy Pages wanted more consistency in 2022 season
Although Pages continued to improve his stock during the 2022 season, he felt a lack of steadiness at the plate.
He still posted strong numbers, but he enjoyed a hot April with the Drillers before he experienced regression in May and had a bit of a rollercoaster season after that.
