Julio Urías and the Los Angeles Dodgers both had streaks snapped in a 4-0 loss to Eric Lauer and the Milwaukee Brewers. The shutout loss was the Dodgers’ first at home this season.
The Dodgers had won nine games in a row at Dodger Stadium before Monday’s loss, though still hold the best home record in baseball. Meanwhile, Urías hadn’t lost a game since June 12.
Urías stranded a pair of walks in the second inning and didn’t allow a hit until Luis Urías’ solo home run with two outs in the fourth. The blast came one inning after the Brewers’ infielder replaced Mike Brosseau at third base.
The solo home run was one of just two hits Julio Urías allowed over his six innings of work. Urías finished with seven strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 2.36 despite the tough-luck loss. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven consecutive starts.
Lauer entered the series opener 6-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 10 career starts against the Dodgers. He improved on allowing two runs to L.A. last week by getting through five scoreless innings.
However, that’s not to suggest the Dodgers didn’t have their share of opportunities. They had two runners reach in the second inning, loaded the bases in the fourth, and outhit the Brewers, 8-5. Justin Turner was thrown at home plate to end the second inning. The Dodgers went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine.
The Brewers scored three runs against Phil Bickford in the ninth to create some breathing room.
While it came in a loss, Brusdar Graterol completed a perfect inning with two strikeouts in his return from the 15-day injured list. Ryan Pepiot was optioned as the corresponding roster move.
Dodgers sign Max Muncy to contract extension
Prior to the game, the Dodgers announced Max Muncy was signed to a one-year, $13.5 million contract extension. His new deal includes a $10 million (plus incentives) team option for 2024.
“It means everything to me,” Muncy said of the contract extension. “There’s no place I’d rather be. Hopefully, next year won’t be it, there will be more after that.”
