The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Jacob Amaya, Eddys Leonard, James Outman and Jorbit Vivas to Minor League camp following Wednesday’s win over the Cleveland Guardians.
Each of the four were added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster in order to protect against potentially losing them in the Major League phase of the 2021 Rule 5 Draft. Michael Grove was part of that group as well, but he remains in camp with the Dodgers.
The prolonged MLB lockout amounted to only the Minor League portion of the Rule 5 Draft being held. There was some thought a second draft would be scheduled once the lockout concluded, but the league ultimately decided against such plan.
Amaya struggled a bit with Double-A Tulsa in 2021, batting .216/.303/.343 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 RBI over 113 games. Amaya is 1-for-5 with a walk and appeared in four Cactus League games this year.
Leonard hit a combined .296/.390/.539 with 29 doubles and 22 home runs for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes last season. He’s played second base, third base, shortstop and center field thus far in the Minors.
Leonard is hitless in five at-bats over three Spring Training games.
Outman spent last season with the Loons and Drillers, batting a combined .266/.379/.490 with 21 doubles, 18 home runs and 54 RBI in 104 games. He’s carried that into the spring, going 5-for-9 with one home run and five RBI across four Cactus League games.
Vivas also spent time with the Quakes and Loons last season, hitting .312/.396/.496 with 26 doubles and 14 home runs on the year. Vivas has one hit in five at-bats during spring play.
Amaya, Leonard, Outman and Vivas remain eligible to play for the Dodgers during Cactus League games as Minor League callups.
