Four years removed from last playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Andre Ethier has become an active member in the community to provide for those in need.
His efforts have come with helping support No Us Without You L.A. The nonprofit organization was formed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and with a focus on providing food relief to the most disenfranchised hospitality workers affected.
Launched with a goal of feeding 30 families every week, No Us Without You L.A. is providing food security for over 1,600 families. Ethier recently joined their efforts for a Thanksgiving food drive, and now is spearheading additional initiatives.
One of those was buying out a movie theater so families could enjoy Disney’s “Encanto.” Although Ethier provided the financial support, he gave credit to No Us Without You L.A. for carrying out the plan, via AM 570 L.A. Sports:
“The theater thing kind of came about because these families, we know what it is, right? The holiday season, all these moms and dads, whoever, is out there trying to sometimes make a decision: give your kids great stuff, the best stuff, put presents underneath the tree.
“But you’ve got movies coming out and kids talking about it, so why not give them a chance to see a movie in the theater? I approached them on it and they are the one executing it. It’s easy to give me the credit, but they’re honestly the ones who went out there and executed this to make it happen.”
Ethier’s collaboration with the charity is only just starting as he plans to be featured in their videos and is raffling off dugout club seats to future Dodgers games to those who donate.
Ethier bought burritos for Dodgers fans
Prior to aligning himself with the local nonprofit, Ethier bought burritos for Dodgers fans who traveled to Arizona for a game at Chase Field.
