Dodgers Trade Player To Be Named Later To Royals For Danny Duffy

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced their trade for Danny Duffy, acquiring the southpaw along with cash considerations in exchange for the Kansas City Royals receiving a player to be named later.

As a player with 10-and-5 rights, the Lompoc, California native waived his full no-trade clause in order for the deal to be finalized. Prior to the trade there had been conflicting reports on the Dodgers’ purported interest.

Duffy is on the 10-day injured list with a left flexor strain, which previously caused him to miss six weeks this season.

He returned June 23 and pitched to a 3.72 ERA in six games (five starts) before landing on the IL for a second time. The 32-year-old didn’t go more than five innings in any of those appearances.

Overall this season Duffy is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA, 4.17 FIP and 1.32 WHIP in 13 games (12 starts). He is in the final season of a five-year, $65 million contract signed with the Royals before the 2017 campaign.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said on Tuesday that Duffy was on track to return in three or four weeks, barring a setback. That timeline would suggest Duffy may have to serve as an opener or relief pitcher for the Dodgers.

Over parts of 11 seasons season with the Royals, Duffy went 68-68 with a 3.95 ERA.

The relatively trade was not expected to have an impact on the Dodgers’ pursuit of a frontline starter, such as Max Scherzer. L.A. is reportedly closing in on a trade for the future Hall of Famer and Trea Turner.

Dodgers DFA Peters

In order to complete Duffy trade, the Dodgers designated DJ Peters for assignment. The power-hitting outfielder was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

Peters made his MLB debut this season but struggled in minimal opportunities. He hit .192 with one home run and four RBI over 18 games and was remained hamstrung by a propensity to strike out.

In five Minor League seasons, Peters hit .266 with 96 homers and 290 RBI. He could remain with the Dodgers organization if going unclaimed on waivers.
