The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Trevor Bauer since early July as MLB placed him on administrative leave following allegations of alleged sexual assault and a San Diego woman obtaining a temporary restraining order.
That was originally executed June 28, though did not become public knowledge until days later. The Dodgers have deferred to Major League Baseball throughout the entire process thus far.
Bauer’s administrative leave has twice been extended and is currently set to expire on Tuesday. That was notable in that it came after a scheduled court hearing for the civil case, when it was possible for some clarity.
Bauer was in attendance in the Los Angeles courtroom on Friday, but the hearing has been delayed until August and is expected to last multiple days, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic
The hearing was pushed from Friday to Aug. 2 after Shawn Holley, Bauer’s attorney, said she had insufficient time to prepare for medical records and exhibits including witness lists that she received recently. In a short court hearing earlier Friday, Holley had waived a continuance. Attorneys for both Bauer and his accuser said they each intend to call multiple witnesses at the hearing, including Bauer, and the hearing is expected to last three days, now scheduled for Aug. 2, 3 and 19.
“We came here ready, but ready on what had been presented to us,” Holley said in court prior to Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman’s ruling.
With the parties not due back in court until next month, it can be presumed MLB and the Players Association will agree on another extension for Bauer’s paid leave.
In addition to the investigation being conducted by the Pasadena Police Department, MLB is looking into the matter themselves. It was recently reported they hoped to speak with Bauer and his accuser as part of the information-gathering process.
Bauer bobblehead night replaced
Soon after allegations against Bauer went public, the Dodgers removed his merchandise from stores at Dodger Stadium and the team’s official website.
Furthermore, the Trevor Bauer bobblehead on Aug. 19 has been replaced by a Clayton Kershaw world champion t-shirt giveaway.
