Stan Kasten Wanted Dodgers’ 2020 World Series Rings To ‘Tell A Story’

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their 2020 World Series championship during a pregame ceremony before last Friday’s home opener against the Washington Nationals, which many felt was a storybook ending to an unforgettable season.

In addition to a championship banner being raised, players and coaches received their rings. They were hand-crafted by Jostens and uniquely designed to commemorate the club’s achievements.

The ring top features the Dodgers’ “LA” logo that is crafted from 17 custom-cut genuine sapphires and set atop a baseball diamond. The interior of the baseball diamond is filled by an additional 29 diamonds to represent the number of home runs the Dodgers hit while playing in the postseason bubble at Globe Life Field.

The ring also honors the organization’s previous World Series championships with six princess-cut diamonds set in pennants along the edges of the ring top.

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten EXPLAINED the team wanted to go all-out with the ring design to give players something they can always look back and be proud of, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“I think we all wanted it to be showy and emblematic of a lot of work. Players look for that kind of reward at the end of the year. You hear about them talking about it since they were children, getting the ring. We wanted something that told a story, which this one does, but also showing that they would be proud to walk around with it.”

One element that stands out about the Dodgers’ World Series rings is how personalized they are. The inside of the ring was custom-made with the players’ signature and also features a blue enamel “LA” logo along with the Dodgers’ postseason series results.

The Dodgers’ and Jostens’ attention to detail extended beyond the actual piece of fine jewelry as the ring box featured a video screen that played highlights from last season.

Turner: Dodgers World Series ring ceremony felt like ‘first real’ celebration

When the Dodgers won the World Series last year, they were somewhat limited to how much they could celebrate due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Justin Turner was among the players who felt last week’s festivities made up for the lost time. “It was obviously a very, very special day and a special moment. Something I’ll never forget,” he said.

“And then to go out and get the win on the home opener, ring day, was just huge. It was just great to have fans back in Dodger Stadium. Hearing the roar of the crowd and getting that win was nice. It’s good to be home.”
