Dodgers Place Ross Stripling On 10-Day DL, Transfer Tony Cingrani To 60-Day DL And Reinstate Hyun-Jin Ryu

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially reinstated Hyun-Jin Ryu off the 60-day disabled list for his start Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants. Ross Stripling was placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower back inflammation and Tony Cingrani was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 25- and 40-man rosters, respectively.

Ryu is making his first start since May 2 as the Dodgers look to snap a five-game losing streak and avoid being swept by the rival Giants. During that May 2 outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Ryu left after just 1.1 innings due to a groin injury that has kept him out ever since.

The injury was an unfortunate one considering how well he was pitching before he went down, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.12 ERA, 3.13 FIP and 0.86 WHIP in his first six starts. He struck out 36 and walked 10 in 29.2 innings.

Ryu has been limited to just 32 games across the last four seasons, so he has obviously had tough luck in regards to injuries in his time with the Dodgers. His return could come at an opportune time as the Dodgers are relying on starters to help fortify the bullpen.

Stripling, who was recently moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen, was not able to make any appearances before landing on the disabled list with the back issue. He began feeling the pain over the weekend in Colorado, although he does not believe the issue is all that serious. He saw a specialist on Wednesday though, so it appears the issue was serious enough to require a DL stint.

Overall on the season, Stripling is 8-3 with a 2.62 ERA, 3.10 FIP and 1.13 WHIP in 28 games (17 starts) while striking out 121 and walking 17 in 110 innings. It has been a few days since he last pitched, so the disabled list stint is retroactive to Aug. 10.

Cingrani has been out since June 24 with a shoulder issue and recently received a cortisone shot so it does not appear that he will be ready to return anytime soon.

In 22.1 innings pitched this season (28 games), Cingrani has compiled a 4.84 ERA, 2.13 FIP and 1.03 WHIP with 36 strikeouts to only six walks.
