The Los Angeles Dodgers boast one of the better farm systems in all of baseball, with a plethora of talent scattered throughout the higher and lower ranks of the Minor Leagues.
That especially holds true for their High-A affiliate in the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, who currently sport a roster with the likes of top pitching prospects Walker Buehler and Dustin May, as well as highly-regarded positional prospects in Jeren Kendall and Gavin Lux.
A roster of that magnitude is expected to dominate on the field, and that was evident over the last two weeks of play. The Quakes had strung together a franchise-best 15-game winning streak before it came to an end on Wednesday evening with a loss against the Lancaster JetHawks.
The run began on June 26, when the Quakes defeated the San Diego Padres’ High-A affiliate Lake Elsinore by a final score of 6-0. Rancho Cucamonga would win the next two games in the series, outscoring their rival, 6-0, in back-to-back shutouts.
With their winning streak at three games, the Quakes moved on to a new five-game series against High-A Infield Empire. Rancho Cucamonga went on to sweep the matchup with ease and found themselves in the midst of their hottest stretch all season.
The Quakes, with an eight-game winning streak at hand, opened up another five-game series against High-A San Jose. As was the case in the previous set, Rancho Cucamonga completed the sweep and looked for similar results against High-A Lancaster in the ensuing matchup.
The Quakes made quick work of the JetHawks, defeating them in the first two games of a four-game series at LoanMart Field. The ensuing contest featured a different outcome, however, as High-A Rancho Cucamonga fell to Lancaster by a final score of 6-2.
Despite the loss, the Quakes remain six games ahead of the second-place JetHawks in the California League South division with an 18-3 record in the standings.
