Update (Thursday, Sept. 7, 5:00 p.m. PT): Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reiterated Corey Seager will be in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have trudged along over the past week with Corey Seager limited to pinch-hit duty because of a sore right elbow. He was initially expected to be out of the lineup for a few games but his return was pushed back by a need to complete a throwing program.

That began once the Dodgers returned from a seven-game road trip, and by Tuesday, the 22-year-old shortstop had already increased the distance he was throwing from. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the hope is to have Seager back in the lineup Friday.

At the time of announcing Seager was slated for a throwing program, Roberts said the duration was expected to be four to seven days.

Entering Wednesday, Seager hasn’t started in the last 10 games. Prior to Tuesday’s appearance, he last pinch-hit Sept. 2 against the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers are 1-9 since the team has erred on the side of caution with Seager.

Although Seager deemed his elbow to be 100 percent healthy when Roberts first revealed his young shortstop was battling soreness, a recent MRI revealed some ‘problems,’ that are causing swelling and inflammation. Seager has implied offseason surgery is likely ahead.

The first sign of some trouble surfaced prior to a game against the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 18. Seager was the designated hitter that night and was given a game off six days later. Because of the sore right elbow, he last started at shortstop on Aug. 27.
