Heading into Sunday’s series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers were first to score in each of the first two games at Chase Field. All that resulted in were thrashings both nights at the hands of their National League West opponent.

On Sunday, it was the Diamondbacks who struck first, with Paul Goldschmidt tagging Brandon McCarthy for a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. But that was it for Arizona the rest of the way.

The Dodgers, who were on the wrong end of a nine-run inning on Friday, pounced on Shelby Miller and Randall Delgado to erase a 2-0 deficit in the fifth. Miller allowed a game-tying double to Corey Seager and was removed due to what was later called forearm tightness.

Randall Delgado inherited a baserunner and promptly allowed a base hit to Justin Turner and two-run double to Adrian Gonzalez.

Yasmani Grandal capped off the Dodgers’ six-run inning by sending the first pitch he saw into the right-center field stands:

The home run was Grandal’s third of the season, which is tied for second on the team. Last season, Grandal led all NL catchers and was second in the Majors with 27 homers.

McCarthy gave the Dodgers seven innings in a much-needed quality start to provide relief for a weary bullpen. Pedro Baez and Sergio Romo combined for two scoreless innings to help Los Angeles snap a two-game losing streak and avoid being swept for the first time this season.
