Clayton Kershaw put the Los Angeles Dodgers on his back in the series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, and the Dodgers capitalized on timely hitting and Reds errors to come away with another victory Tuesday night.

In just his second start this season, Mike Bolsinger turned in 5.2 innings and exited with the Dodgers holding a one-run lead. The two runs Bolsinger allowed was largely a result of bad luck.

A grounder hit first base and carried over Adrian Gonzalez to go down the line for a two-out double in the fourth inning, and an Adam Duvall followed by going down to get a pitch for a two-run home run that just cleared Joc Pederson’s leaping attempt in center field.

The Dodgers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and scored another pair in the sixth inning.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Howie Kendrick hit a grounder to first base that Joey Votto, perhaps distracted by Yasmani Grandal, was unable to make a play on. Yasiel Puig never stopped running and scored from second base on the error, just beating Brandon Phillips’ throw:

Upon arriving in the dugout, Puig received an earful from manager Dave Roberts and was benched. Puig reached base in the inning on a long RBI single that he admired before running out of the batter’s box.

Roberts said after the game Puig should’ve been on second base, and players need to be held accountable.
