The first 2025 MLB All-Star Game voting update features Shohei Ohtani and three of his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates leading at their respective positions.
Ohtani’s 1,398,771 votes not only are tops among designated hitter candidates, but he is leading all NL players as well. Ohtani trails only New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge (1,568,527) in MLB All-Star Game voting thus far.
Judge has led all players in All-Star fan voting in 2022 and 2024.
Elsewhere for the Dodgers, Freddie Freeman is leading NL first basemen with 1,136,389 votes. That tally is also good for second-most among all NL players, behind only Ohtani.
While time still remains, Freeman is on an early track to start in the All-Star Game at Truist Park, where he previously called home as a member of the Atlanta Braves.
Freeman is ahead of New York Mets’ Pete Alonso (895,900) and Chicago Cubs’ Michael Busch (286,931), among others, in NL All-Star voting at first base.
Will Smith (1,124,629) has the most votes among NL catchers. That has him well ahead of Cubs’ Carson Kelly (408,081) and Mets’ Francisco Alvarez (274,191). Smith is looking to earn his first start in the All-Star Game via fan voting. Russell Martin was the last Dodgers catcher to start in MLB’s Midsummer Classic when he did so in 2007.
Teoscar Hernández is part of an otherwise all-Cubs outfield picture as he ranks third with 685,553 votes. Cubs teammates Pete Crow-Armstrong (1,126,119) and Kyle Tucker (704,740) are ahead of Hernández in voting for NL outfielders.
Tommy Edman remains in contention for fan voting at second base (510,451) but is trailing Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks, as he’s garnered 850,575 votes thus far.
Mets’ Francisco Lindor is in the lead at shortstop with 1,019,273 votes. That’s far outpacing Mookie Betts (597,188) and Trea Turner of the Philadelphia Phillies (348,053). Turner has won two of the last three fan elections at NL shortstop.
Meanwhile, San Diego Padres’ Manny Machado (955,122) is the top vote-getter among NL third basemen. That’s nearly double the total of Max Muncy (415,750) and well in front of Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suárez (290,138).
MLB All-Star Game voting 2025
All-Star Game voting consists of two phases, with the first determining which players will advance to the next round before a starter at each position is decided during phase 2.
The top overall vote-getter in each league automatically earns a starting spot and skips phase 2, while the rest of the finalists will compete in the second round. If an outfielder is a league’s top vote-getter, phase 2 voting at the position will still take place to determine the remaining two starters among the next four outfield finalists.
The leading vote-getters at every position and top six outfielders from each league will be revealed on MLB Network, beginning at 3 p.m. PT on June 26.
Phase 2 of MLB All-Star Game voting begins at 9 a.m. PT on Monday, June 30.
MLB All-Star Game starters will then be announced that night on ESPN, beginning at 4 p.m. Reserves and pitchers who help make up complete AL and NL rosters for the 2025 All-Star Game will be revealed at 2 p.m., on ESPN as well, on July 6.
Pitchers and reserves for both teams — totaling 23 for each — will be determined through a combination of “Player Ballot” choices and selections made by the commissioner’s office.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is going to lead the NL All-Stars due to his team winning the pennant last season. New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is at the helm of the AL team.
The Atlanta Braves are hosting the 2025 All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 15.
