MLB All-Star Week in Los Angeles officially began Friday with the first-ever beach event with the Capital One All-Star Oceanfront at the Santa Monica Pier and Beach.
All-Star Oceanfront is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday, July 17. The free event will feature casual and instructional youth baseball and softball activities on the beach directly south of the pier.
In addition to baseball and softball, the site will also be home to a daily All-Star Yoga class with the Pacific Ocean offering a picturesque backdrop and baseball-themed sand sculptures.
On the Santa Monica Pier deck, fans can shop for official 2022 MLB All-Star Game merchandise, participate in batting and pitching cages, and play any number of interactive games and promotions in a baseball-themed setting.
“One of the things that we try to do with All-Star is create a special program for each city that really highlights the unique and special elements of that town, as well as creating an environment for all fans to participate,” MLB chief operations and strategy officer Chris Marinak said during a press conference at Dodger Stadium last month.
“First, and probably most exemplary is a new event called the MLB All-Star Oceanfront at Santa Monica Pier.
“That will be a free event on the beach, Friday through Sunday of All-Star Weekend. We will have a number of themed events geared toward casual play and reaching a new audience oceanfront in front of the sun in the middle of July in Los Angeles. We’re really excited about that event.”
On Saturday, MLB will partner on a beach clean-up in Santa Monica with Heal the Bay, a local non-profit dedicated to making the coastal waters and watersheds in greater Los Angeles safe, healthy and clean.
The MLB Green Team Event is part of the league’s continued efforts to promote sustainability and environmental awareness while also giving opportunities to take direct action through volunteerism.
More information on the beach clean-up and to register for the event can be found here.
