Mets Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Trying To Avoid Series Sweep In Finale Of Homestand

The Los Angeles Dodgers have fallen into a rut after a strong start to the season as they enter Sunday’s matchup against the New York Mets on a three-game losing streak. Conversely, the Mets have won six games in a row.

The Dodgers are looking to salvage their homestand by avoiding a sweep. They already have lost three consecutive series for the first time since June 2-11, 2023. It’s the first time the Dodgers have lost three series in a row at Dodger Stadium since Aug. 3-22, 2018, which occurred over two separate homestands.

Meanwhile, the Mets are looking to complete their first three-game sweep of the Dodgers since April 27-28, 2010, when they accomplished the feat at Citi Field. The Mets haven’t swept the Dodgers in three games at Dodger Stadium since Aug. 28-30, 1989.

Tyler Glasnow takes the mound Sunday after the Dodgers made a slight change to their rotation schedule. Glasnow is coming off a rough outing against the Washington Nationals that saw him allow six runs on eight hits in just five innings pitched.

“I think just not a lot of execution,” Glasnow explained of his struggles. “I don’t think any of my pitches were really working, not hitting my spots and just falling behind early. If I’m only throwing one pitch for a strike, they’re able to sit on something, stay on the heater and I think it’s just easier to sell out to one pitch.”

Overall this season, Glasnow is 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in five starts.

He’s opposed by Adrian Houser, who enters 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in three starts this year. Houser is in his first season with the Mets after pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2015-2023.

The right-hander has an inflated ERA this season due to allowing five runs to the Atlanta Braves on April 9. Houser otherwise allowed two runs or fewer in his other two starts.

Houser gave up four runs (three earned) and took the loss when he started against the Dodgers last August.
