Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Kyle Farmer and Alex Wood collaborated with Athletes Brand to design a t-shirt on behalf of Chance Veazey, their former teammate at the University of Georgia. Veazey sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury in a motorized scooter accident in 2009.
Shortly after the tragic accident, Farmer and Wood got tattoos on the inside of their arms that read, “Second Chance,” which is the inspiration for their t-shirt design. Proceeds from shirt sales will benefit Shepherd Center, a spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation hospital that Veazey spent much o f his rehab process at.
“Chance’s injury was devastating but we’re all so thankful that his rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center improved his circumstances,” Farmer said.
“We chose to support the Shepherd Center knowing it will help improve the life of other spinal cord injury patients like him.”
Each time Wood takes the mound it’s with a glove that features the initials C.V.J.T. etched on it. It is to honor Veazey and Jonathan Taylor. Taylor sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury in an in-game collision with a teammate in 2011.
The limited-edition “Second Chance” t-shirt can be purchased at AthletesBrand.com from now until Monday, Oct. 9. Those who purchase a t-shirt on Monday will be entered for a chance to win a memorabilia item that’s autographed by Farmer. The tri-blend shirt is available in men’s, women’s and youth sizes.
Earlier this season, Yasmani Grandal designed a shirt with Athletes Brand that aimed to generate proceeds that would go toward relief in El Mirador, which is one of the Dominican Republic’s most poverty-stricken communities.
