Dodgers Highlights: Kiké Hernández, Andy Pages & Shohei Ohtani Contribute Against White Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers began their road trip with a 3-0 win against the Chicago White Sox, led by a scoreless outing by James Paxton, clutch hit from Kiké Hernández and Shohei Ohtani providing insurance late.

Paxton started a strong Dodgers pitching effort with five shutout innings. He held the White Sox to three hits and issued three walks, but offset some of the traffic by collecting six strikeouts.

Paxton exited with the game knotted in a scoreless tie due to Garrett Crochet relying on a dominant fastball to keep the Dodgers off balance over his 5.2 innings of work.

They eventually managed to break through against a subpar White Sox bullpen as Miguel Rojas started the rally with a leadoff double in the seventh inning. That was cashed in by Hernández connecting on a double of his own.

Hernández then scored when Chris Taylor’s grounder resulted in a throwing error on Paul DeJong. Ohtani provided the Dodgers with some breathing room in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly. Ohtani, who was named National League Player of the Week for a second time, had his streak of games with a home run snapped but now has at least one RBI eight in a row.

The Dodgers improved to 23-0 this season when Rojas has at least one hit. It’s the longest winning streak when one specific player has a hit since 1900.

Andy Pages went 1-for-4 and made multiple impressive catches in center field, one sliding in and another against the wall.

After Paxton, the Dodgers received one inning each from Daniel Hudson, Yohan Ramírez, Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia. Phillips faced the heart of the White Sox lineup in the eighth inning, which left Vesia to convert his fourth save of the season.
