Dave Roberts Praises Dodgers Starting Pitchers For Providing Length

The Los Angeles Dodgers won a fourth consecutive game with a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, which saw Yoshinobu Yamamoto turn in another solid start.

The right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits and collected eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. He exited with two outs in the seventh after throwing a career-high 100 pitches.

Yamamoto’s outing was the 18th time in a 27 game stint that a Dodgers starting pitcher threw at least six innings. “It’s everything,” manager Dave Roberts said of the team’s starters providing length.

“Certainly, when you’re going through stretches of 10 in a row, 13 in a row, a bullpen that we’ve kind of been mixing and matching, in and out of the clubhouse, certain guys that you got to manage their workload.

“Today, we had a few guys that were down, so you got to find ways to win games. And I couldn’t imagine where we’d be if our guys wouldn’t go six innings, which they’ve done quite often.”

The Dodgers rotation has been led by Tyler Glasnow and Yamamoto this season, but Landon Knack, Gavin Stone and James Paxton have also been pleasant surprises.

Walker Buehler is back in the mix as well, and the group should continue getting reinforcements later in the season when Bobby Miller, Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May all potentially return.

The Dodgers starters took a step back in their next two games against the Diamondbacks, but Glasnow and Stone still managed to throw five innings each, even while pitching without their best stuff.

Dodgers offense clicking with Freddie Freeman still searching for hot streak

Freddie Freeman is in the midst of another solid season, but hasn’t caught fire at the plate yet. “I think there’s other people that have done really well,” Roberts said.

“But I think offensively, we’re doing enough to score some runs to win. I think that there’s a lot of room to continue to get better consistency up and down the lineup. But the pitching has been the impetus for this hot streak we’re on, There’s no doubt about that.”
