While it is the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers who continue to battle it out for the most wins in baseball, a recent World Series champion remains the favorite to win it all at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Houston Astros are viewed as the team to beat at +225 (bet $100 to win $225) on the latest 2019 World Series odds, ahead of the Yankees and Dodgers.
Houston might not even catch New York for the top record in the American League, but a loaded lineup and stellar starting pitching make the 2017 World Series champions the most dangerous team in MLB right now. After adding Zack Greinke to a rotation also featuring Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole at the trade deadline, it will be difficult for any team to challenge that top three, including Los Angeles.
The Dodgers have easily been the National League’s best team so far this season, and they are expected to advance to the World Series for the third consecutive year. They are the +275 second choice at sports betting sites to win their first World Series since 1988 and possibly avenge their defeat against the Astros in a seven-game matchup two years ago.
The difference this time around might be that L.A. has a much better lineup, led by NL MVP contender Cody Bellinger. The team has a formidable rotation as well with Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Hyun-Jin Ryu that could match Houston.
The Yankees are the +450 third choice and may hold some solid value if they can lock down home-field advantage in the AL and throughout the playoffs. They have overcome numerous injuries to contend for the best record, and their only real weakness might be their starting pitching. That said, they did go the distance with the Astros two years ago in the AL Championship Series, with the home team winning every game.
Other teams in the mix that could play the role of spoiler and potentially knock out one of those three favorites are the Atlanta Braves (+900) and Chicago Cubs (+1600) in the NL along with the Cleveland Indians (+1600) and Minnesota Twins (+1800) in the AL. Of that group, the Twins are the biggest unknown because they have lacked recent success in the playoffs. However, Minnesota also offers the most upside at those odds.
