The 2025 MLB Draft in Atlanta begins Sunday, with the first day consisting of 105 selections that run through the end of the third round, which includes both competitive balance rounds and compensation picks before the fourth round.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have 21 picks throughout the duration of the 2025 MLB Draft, which concludes Monday.
The Dodgers don’t make their first selection until No. 40 due to pick dropping 10 spots as a result of the team exceeding the second luxury tax threshold during the 2024 season.
This year marks the fifth time the Dodgers have held the 40th overall pick in the MLB Draft. When they last did so, it was used to take Dalton Rushing in 2022.
The Dodgers also have the 41st pick in the 2025 Draft, which they received as part of their return for trading Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds in January. Picks 40 and 41 reside in Competitive Balance Round A, which is between the first and second rounds.
The Dodgers previously picked at No. 41 in the Draft two other times.
Day 1 of the MLB Draft will also see the Dodgers pick at No. 65 overall (second round) and No. 104 (third round). The Dodgers drafted at No. 65 four prior times, and held the 104th selection three previous instances.
The Dodgers’ bonus pool for the 2025 MLB Draft is $9,031,300, which ranks 24th among all teams. Though, that also is their second-largest total under the current system that has been in place since 2012.
Bonus pools are calculated by adding the slot values of every pick through the first 10 rounds. Any signing bonus amount more than $125,000 for draft picks after the 10th round also count against the pool money.
Consequences for exceeding that allotment include a 75% tax on any overage amount that is up to 5% over the pool. If a team goes over the 5% threshold, they will lose their first-round pick in the next draft.
As part of the 2022-2026 collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the first six picks in the 2024 MLB Draft were awarded to teams through a lottery system.
