The Los Angeles Dodgers punched their ticket to a third consecutive National League Championship Series behind a comeback victory against the Atlanta Braves. Fittingly, it was their midseason acquisitions played a significant role in eliminating the Braves.

Manny Machado opened the scoring with a two-out RBI double in the first inning that brought Max Muncy home from first base. However, Los Angeles then sputtered in multiple innings, and Atlanta wound up taking a 2-1 lead on Kurt Suzuki’s pinch-hit two-run single in the fourth inning.

Two innings later, David Freese found himself at the center of yet another big at-bat in October. He was pinch-hitting with two outs and runners at the corners, then was at the plate with two in scoring position once Yasiel Puig stole second base without a throw.

Freese snuck a grounder by a diving Charlie Culberson for a two-run single that gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. Machado provided insurance in the seventh, clubbing a three-run homer that put the Braves away for good, 6-2.

Once the Dodgers wrapped the game up, their celebration began on the field and included the customary team photo before it carried into the clubhouse. Like he was after the team clinched the NL West, Puig was easily the highlight of the festivities.

Game 1 of the NLCS is set for Friday at Miller Park. The series will then shift to Dodger Stadium for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and Game 5 on Wednesday, if necessary.
