Tyler Glasnow Showing Continued Growth: ‘He’s A Different Person’

Tyler Glasnow tossed a gem in one of the coldest games in Los Angeles Dodgers history on Friday night. While the results were appreciated, the outing meant far more to manager Dave Roberts.

Glasnow braved the elements to throw seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits, striking out seven and walking two. In previous seasons, the right-hander would let things affect him when something didn’t go his way, whether that was difficult weather, not having his best stuff, feeling a bit off mechanically, or anything else.

Now, Glasnow is showing he can pitch through unideal situations, and it’s a step Roberts has been looking to see for some time, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

“With the season, there’s just so many things that are unforeseen, and you’ve just got to be willing to adapt and find ways to get through it,” Roberts said. “I think in years past, things affected him. He’ll admit that. I think right now, where he’s at, he’s just put the blinders on and he’s performed. For us, that’s really good to see.”

Glasnow has taken a step forward this season, both as a pitcher and with the mental side of baseball. For the 32-year-old, his struggles have never been about his ability, but instead, it’s been about staying healthy and putting everything together consistently:

“He’s a different person, for me,” Roberts said. “He’s grown exponentially.”

Glasnow really started to show that growth in the 2025 postseason, when he pitched in relief multiple times, something he’d never done before. Glasnow pushed himself outside of the ideal conditions and made a major impact, including in Game 7 of the World Series.

Last year, Glasnow missed a significant amount of time trying to perfect his mechanics and get the correct feeling when he pitches. That caused some frustration from the Dodgers, given that no pitcher will ever feel their best every time they pitch.

Now, Glasnow has a better understanding of that with a confidence about what he can do even when he’s not at his best, and that’s paying off for the Dodgers.

Tyler Glasnow off to strong start

Glasnow has pitched in four games this season, going 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 25 innings while striking out 29 hitters.

He has pitched at least six innings in all four of his starts, and he has allowed two runs or fewer in three of them.
