Tyler Glasnow Injury: Dodgers Starter Leaves Pirates Game Due To Shoulder Issue

Tyler Glasnow was removed early from a start due to a physical issue for the second time in a row. Last week, Glasnow came out of a start against the Texas Rangers in the fifth inning because of lower leg cramps.

That was considered a relief considering Glasnow at one point appeared to shake his right arm after throwing a warmup pitch. Cramping issues are something Glasnow has previously dealt with but he remains largely at a loss over the cause.

On Sunday, Glasnow came out of the game in the second inning. He finished throwing warmup pitches before circling around the mound and being checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert.

A brief conversation was had before Glasnow walked off the field. Replay of Glasnow finishing his warmup throws showed him shaking his right arm. The Dodgers announced Glasnow’s injury to be right shoulder discomfort.

Glasnow’s velocity and spin rates were in the first inning were in line with his season averages.

Prior to the game, Roberts expressed confidence in Glasnow heading into the start.

“He did an IV yesterday, just kind of getting his body hydrated,” Roberts said. “All the work leading up to today is good, so for me and the training staff, there’s no concern going into this start. Which is a good thing.”

Tyler Glasnow’s health

After having his 2024 season end early because of right elbow tendinitis, Glasnow spent the offseason working on mechanical adjustments to maintain better health. He and the Dodgers were encouraged by the changes and the 31-year-old was off to a strong start this season.

Though, Glasnow now has had three starts go sideways. He came unglued against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 6 — largely due to rainy weather — and left his last two outings because of injury.
