The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Trevor Bauer the entire month and if or when he may return is unclear. Bauer remains on paid administrative leave, which began July 2, in the wake of sexual assault allegations.
Bauer last pitched for the Dodgers on June 28, which was a day prior to a woman coming forward with the allegations and obtaining a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court. Major League Baseball and the Pasadena Police Department are conducting separate investigations.
After MLB and the Players Association agreed on two separate instances to extend the administrative leave, Bauer was in court last week but his hearing was delayed until August after his attorney claimed she had insufficient time to prepare for medical records and witness lists that were recently received.
Hearings for Bauer’s case — which remains a civil matter as criminal charges have not been filed nor has an arrest been made — were set for Aug. 2, 3 and 19. However, the initial August dates have now been changed to consecutive days middle of the month, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN:
The civil hearing for the temporary restraining order obtained against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has been moved to Aug. 16 to 19.
The hearing, expected to last between two and three days, was originally scheduled for Aug. 3, 4 and 19, but Bauer’s side once again asked for a continuance, sources told ESPN.
With Bauer’s hearing now not scheduled to begin until Aug. 16, it can be presumed MLB and the MLBPA will agree on additional extensions of his leave. The third — and latest instance — extended it to Aug. 6.
Even if Bauer does not get arrested or face criminal charges, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has the authority to levy a suspension under the joint domestic violence policy.
Dodgers reportedly don’t want Bauer to return
As more time continues to pass it becomes less likely the 30-year-old will pitch again this season, or be in position to make much of an impact as a starter.
Independent of that, it was recently reported most of the Dodgers clubhouse does not want to see Bauer back with the team regardless of how the investigations unfold.
