The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Tony Gwynn Jr. joined the DodgerTalk broadcasting team, hosted by David Vassegh on AM 570 LA Sports Radio. Vassegh returns for his fifth season as host, while this essentially marks Gwynn’s retirement from Major League Baseball.
He spent parts of eight seasons in the Majors, including a stint with the Dodgers in 2011-12. He appeared in 239 games over the two-year stretch and batted .245/.294/.326 with 39 RBIs in 617 plate appearances.
Gwynn, 33, also played for the Milwaukee Brewers (2006-08), San Diego Padres (2009-10) and Philadelphia Phillies (2014). He stole a career-high 22 bases with the Dodgers in 2011.
This season, DodgerTalk segments will include news, highlights, interviews, analysis, and segments with Ned Colletti, Rick Monday, Charley Steiner and Alanna Rizzo.
Joining Gwynn as a new face to the radio broadcasting team is Tim Cates, who will host the Dodgers on Deck pregame show. A UCLA graduate, Cates has previously served as a producer, reporter and host on Fox Sports Radio Network and AM 570 LA Sports.
The Dodgers and iHeartMedia announced a multiyear agreement in September 2014, renewing the station’s rights to regular season games, select spring training games and postseason games (when applicable).
In addition, the new partnership netted the Dodgers and equity stake in the radio station and the opportunity for collaborative programming.
