The Los Angeles Dodgers send Bobby Miller to the mound to try and complete a series sweep against the Detroit Tigers at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are also going for their sixth straight win and are 7-3 over their last 10 games. Despite having clinched the National League West title over the weekend, they have not taken their foot off the gas pedal, outscoring opponents 17-6 in the three wins since.
That includes Tuesday’s walk-off win provided by Max Muncy.
Miller enters 10-3 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 19 starts this season. Miller’s quick ascension has been one of the biggest keys to the Dodgers’ success in 2023. He has not been perfect, but for a rookie, Miller has shown tremendous poise and continued to improve.
The Detroit Tigers send out their own impressive rookie in Reece Olson. He is 4-7 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Olson has been comparable to Miller in his first season, with the Dodgers’ righty having a few statistics in his favor, but not drastically so.
Olson’s record comes more from getting little run support from the Tigers who are second-to-last in most offensive categories.
One struggling player to watch is David Peralta. He has hit just .095/.174/.143 over his last seven games and been struggling through much of the second half as well. Though, Peralta did have a game-tying, RBI ground-rule double on Tuesday.
The series finale is also the last time Miguel Cabrera is playing at Dodger Stadium, as he plans to retire at the end of this season. Cabrera has 3,167 hits in his career, which moved him into 16th all-time, passing Adrián Beltré.
