Teoscar Hernández Rumors: Boston Red Sox Remain Involved

Teoscar Hernández remains unsigned despite the Los Angeles Dodgers’ continued interest in bringing him back into the fold.

A reunion between both sides seemed inevitable in the early days of the offseason, especially coming off their World Series win and subsequent celebration. But negotiations have dragged out as the Dodgers moderately pursued Juan Soto in free agency and now have to deal with increased interest from other clubs for Hernández’s services.

Hernández’s reported desires for a contract no larger than three-years and $74 million adds further confusion as to why a resolution has not yet been reached.

The ongoing delay has opened the window for other interested teams to attempt to sway Hernández away from L.A.

The Boston Red Sox are one of those clubs and they are still monitoring the situation surrounding the 32-year-old, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com:

The Red Sox would seem like a strong match with the Mariners, especially as Boston continues to monitor the market for hitters like Alex Bregman and Teoscar Hernández.

The Red Sox have exciting young talent in the outfield on their Major League roster and in the farm system, but they did lose Tyler O’Neill to the Baltimore Orioles. They could fill that hole with Hernández until their No. 1 overall prospect Roman Anthony is ready to take over.

However, it is worth noting that the Dodgers made a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to Hernández at the start of the offseason. Meaning, if a team that signs him away from the Dodgers would be losing a draft pick, which could be a motivating factor behind his slow-developing market even after Soto signed with the New York Mets.

Dodgers favored to re-sign Teoscar Hernández?

Despite all the recent developments, the Dodgers are still reportedly still expected to bring Hernández back.

But whether a new contract with the Dodgers will entail deferred salary could largely impact that.
