Teoscar Hernández: Dodgers ‘Trying To Do The Little Things’

The Los Angeles Dodgers have just 14 games remaining in the 2025 season, and they find themselves in a close race for the National League West title.

The San Diego Padres trail them by just 2.5 games, and the Dodgers face a difficult schedule the rest of the way. They still have five games remaining with the San Francisco Giants, three with the Philadelphia Phillies, and three with the Seattle Mariners, meaning 11 of their remaining games come against teams in the playoff race.

The Dodgers have been inconsistent for much of the season, and recently, they’ve found themselves on the losing end of games far too often with a record of 25-26 in the second half.

With the season coming to an end and the Dodgers trying to turn things around, Teoscar Hernández said the club is trying to focus on small aspects to help them win, via Sonja Chen of MLB.com:

“Just going into the games, getting closer to October,” Hernández said, “everybody is trying to do the little things. Not trying to do too much and just getting on base for the next guy.”

During the Dodgers’ struggles, they have often not done the little things well and have too often failed on the fundamentals. That has included both mental and physical errors, and poor situational baseball.

Talent is not an issue for the club, but they have not yet put everything together to play the way they are theoretically capable of. Many players on the club have been in long slumps, including Hernández, who is showing signs of life.

Herhnández is batting just .245 with a .739 on-base plus slugging this year, but over the last week, he’s slugging .600 with an .833 OPS, including three home runs.

The Dodgers will need Hernández to keep on hitting, and continue playing better defense, to make a deep postseason run and clinch the division.

Dodgers tie NL record

By completing a sweep of the Rockies last week, the Dodgers notched their 82nd win of the year. That amounted to clinching a 15th consecutive winning season, tying an NL record that three other franchises have accomplished.

It’s shared with the 2008-2022 St. Louis Cardinals, 1991-2005 Atlanta Braves, 1939-1953 Cardinals and 1899-1913 Pittsburgh Pirates.
