The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their road trip with an 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres in 10 innings, which was the first meeting between the teams since the 2024 National League Division Series.
It also represented Tanner Scott’s first time back at Petco Park since leaving the Padres to sign with the Dodgers on a four-year, $72 million contract. Scott entered in extra innings without much reaction from Padres fans, nor viewing the night any different on a personal level.
“It was just another game,” Scott said after converting his 12th save of the seaon. “I take every game the same way. It was my former team, but so be it.”
The left-hander allowed the automatic runner to score in the 10th, but otherwise got through the inning unscathed.
Scott began his appearance by striking out Manny Machado looking on a backdoor slider that clipped just enough of the zone to get the call from home-plate umpire Mike Estabrook.
Machado became irate over the strikeout and needed to be separated from Estabrook by Padres manager Mike Shildt.
“I was trying to strike him out with it. Luckily it worked out in my favor,” Scott said.
Scott has now strung together four consecutive outings without an earned run after taking a loss against the New York Mets earlier this month.
“Of course, of course,” Scott answered when asked if he is sticking with recent adjustments made. “I was bad before.”
Tanner Scott sees ‘added intensity’ when Dodgers play Padres
While manager Dave Roberts downplayed the significance of the Dodgers facing the Padres, Scott believes there is a little extra juice when the team plays a rival.
“Definitely. It’s a rival. Any team that plays a rival, there’s always a little added intensity. We got out with a win,” Scott said.
With the win, the Dodgers improved to 40-27 this season and increased their lead to two games over the Padres in the NL West standings.
