The Los Angeles Dodgers postseason roster changed in the National League Division Series due to injury for a second consecutive year, as the team removed Tanner Scott prior to Game 4 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Last October the Dodgers replaced Michael Grove with Ben Casparius. Justin Wrobleski took Scott’s spot on the roster, and he remained ineligible as the Dodgers advanced to the NL Championship Series.
Scott’s removal was due to an unexpected abscess excision procedure on his lower body. Manager Dave Roberts said at the time it was likely Scott would be available if the Dodgers reached the World Series.
With that now coming to fruition, the 31-year-old is hopeful to get added onto the roster.
“I feel a lot better now,” Scott said before the Dodgers’ workout on Monday. “There was a few days that I definitely felt miserable. But I feel a lot better now. Throwing, threw a couple bullpens. We’ll see where it takes me.”
Scott added he feels “healthy” and is in a much better position than during the NLDS. Nevertheless, a return to the Dodgers roster would mark roughly one month between appearing in a game.
Scott downplayed any concerns over the possibility of rust setting in, noting, “Playoff energy is different.”
He indicated there’s a chance to potentially face batters in the coming days, and Scott is particularly hopeful to pitch against Freddie Freeman.
“He’s so good. He’s so good and it’s so hard to get him out. He lets me know his last time he faced me, he got a hit off me,” Scott said. “But the time before, I struck him out. So I always bring up that one.”

When asked if there were any specifics he was comfortable sharing regarding the procedure, he declined to do so.
“It was just an infection. Bad timing. Healthy now, so just keep throwing. That’s about it,” Scott said. “It popped up, probably Game 1, I started feeling something. And then the off day, I noticed something was really off.
“By the time we got back from Philly it was like, we need to get this taken care of.”
