Steve Sax Representing Dodgers In 2022 MLB Draft At L.A. Live

Five-time All-Star and 1982 National League Rookie of the Year Steve Sax will represent the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2022 MLB Draft on Sunday.

Sax is among the 17 former players who are scheduled to attend the event in L.A. Live, including Rollie Fingers, Fred McGriff, Rick Sutcliffe, Kevin Mitchell, Michael Bourn, Eric Davis, Jermaine Dye, Shawn Green, Steve Kemp, Mike Lieberthal, Mark Loretta, JJ Putz, Reggie Sanders, Bill Stoneman, Nick Swisher and Rickie Weeks.

Former managers Clint Hurdle and Jack McKeon will also be in attendance.

Additionally, nine amateur players are scheduled to attend, including left-handed pitcher Brandon Barriera from American Heritage High School, outfielder Justin Crawford from Bishop Gorman High School, second baseman Termarr Johnson from Mays High School, first baseman Ivan Melendez from the University of Texas, right-handed pitcher Jacob Miller from Liberty Union High School, shortstop Zach Neto from Campbell University, catcher Kevin Parada from Georgia Tech, right-handed pitcher JR Ritchie from Bainbridge High School and outfielder Sterlin Thompson from the University of Florida.

Last season, the Dodgers had Andre Ethier represent them in the Draft. In 2020, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman represented the club for the virtual draft due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Ron Cey has represented the team at the 2019 and 2017 MLB Drafts and he was joined by Marty Lamb in 2019 and Lon Joyce in 2017. In 2018, the Dodgers were represented by legendary manager Tommy Lasorda and long-time scout Bobby Darwin.

The Dodgers’ first pick in the draft comes in at No. 40 overall, which was a result of the team moving their first-round pick back 10 spots for exceeding the luxury tax.

They Dodgers also had to surrender their second- and fifth-highest picks, which has led to them having a bonus pool total of just $4.2 million, the lowest among all 30 teams.
