The Los Angeles Dodgers are partnering with L.A. County Animal Care Centers to host a dog adoption event at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, which is going to include Steve Garvey, actress Drea de Matteo and accomplished trainer Brandon McMillan among those in attendance.
“It’s been an unforgettable season of championship baseball but there’s no greater victory than helping an animal in need,” Garvey said in a statement. “We hope as many people as possible can show up to celebrate this important event and give these MVP dogs their forever homes.”
The pet adoption event is going to feature approximately 100 dogs from seven shelters. Available dogs will be sized small, medium and large, and include purebreds from Agoura, Baldwin Park, Carson, Castaic, Downy, Lancaster and Palmdale shelters.
Adopters will receive a free bag of Lucy Pet food and the first 100 will be eligible for a free impact-tested pet carseat or travel crate (size limits apply) from TAVO as well. Hollywood Mobile Grooming also is going to offer free services.
“To be a part of this all-star team of animal lovers is the best holiday present we can imagine,” Lucy Pet foundation founder Joey Herrick said. “The most important thing is for us to unite and get these dogs adopted so they don’t become a statistic.”
Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) director Marcia Mayeda added: “We are thrilled to be hosting this event and deeply appreciative of the Dodgers organization and their partnership. Any opportunity to help find homes for more animals is invaluable, and we expect this event to make a significant impact in getting animals out of care centers and into loving homes, just in time for the holiday season.”
The Dodgers previously have turned Dodger Stadium pet-friendly for their Pups in Park night, and former SportsNet LA reporter Alanna Rizzo remains active in helping dogs in need through her Guidry’s Guardian Foundation.
