Fans attending Opening Day of the 2023 season will be the first to experience new Dodger Stadium lights that the Los Angeles Dodgers installed to further enhance the experience of attending a game at Chavez Ravine.
The older lighting system has been replaced by LED lights that have the capability to display color-changing features and abilities. Furthermore, all 600 fixtures will provide better visibility for players and fans, along with be more energy efficient as the Dodgers remain involved in a going green initiative.
President and CEO Stan Kasten revealed news of the lights during Dodgers FanFest.
“For the first time in 60-something years, we are replacing all the lights. And it’s not just that they will go from halide to LED, but they will be instant on and off and full color,” Kasten said.

“In a lot of ballparks, you now see they darken the whole place, do all kinds of effects, all kinds of colors whether it’s a base hit, or a strikeout, or home run, or end of game. We’re going to be able to improve the game experience in a way that has never happened before.
“We’re very happy about that. I’ve already seen some of the configurations and really cool effects that we can have, and I’m very excited. You can watch baseball and go to a nightclub. It’s great. Every night here is fun, but this year is going to be more fun than ever.”
The Dodgers historically start a season with an afternoon start, as Opening Day this year is only their fifth nighttime game in the last 47 years for a season opener at Dodger Stadium.
Other recent Opening Night games at Dodger Stadium were played in 1995, 2011 and 2020. Their home opener in 2022 was at night as well.
