Spring Training Recap: Dodgers Beat Padres For First Cactus League Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped their three-game losing streak to begin Cactus League play with an 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres.

The afternoon matchup at Camelback Ranch saw the Dodgers fall into an early deficit as the Padres capitalized on Giovanny Gallegos struggling in the second inning.

Mike Brosseau hit a leadoff double and took third base on a wild pitch. Ethan Salas’ RBI double broke the scoreless tie and gave the Padres their first run against the Dodgers since Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

Forrest Wall’s RBI single extended the Padres’ lead to 2-0 before Gallegos could get through the inning.

The Dodgers quickly erased their deficit as Zyhir Hope continued his strong showing in spring with a game-tying two-run double in the bottom of the second. The double gave Hope a hit in his second consecutive game and came after he previously showed off strong range with impressive catches against the Chicago Cubs last week.

Hope was acquired along with Jackson Ferris, who has emerged as a top Dodgers prospect as well, in a trade that sent Michael Busch and Yency Almonte to the Cubs.

Mookie Betts followed the extra-base hit with a sacrifice fly that gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.

San Diego later pulled even, but L.A. broke the tie on David Bote’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kody Hoese then broke the game open with a three-run double to left field. Griffin Lockwood-Powell provided insurance an RBI double.

Dustin May returns to mound

Dustin May made his first start of 2025 Dodgers Spring Training in what was his first game action since May 2023. The right-hander pitched through some traffic and ended a scoreless first inning with a strikeout.
