The Los Angeles Dodgers are the designated road team for their second and final matchup with the Chicago White Sox in Cactus League play this year. L.A. shut out their Camelback Ranch co-tenant earlier this month.
Tuesday’s meeting brings about plenty of intrigue as young aces Walker Buehler and Lucas Giolito duel. For Buehler, he faces a substantial test with a White Sox lineup that features several of their everyday players. Absent from that, however, is former Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal.
The start is Buehler’s fourth of the year as he continues to complete a normal Spring Training progression. He’s benefitted from a change in offseason routine and while the results from Cactus League starts haven’t always been ideal, Buehler is encouraged by his trajectory.
After throwing two scoreless innings in his debut, Buehler has allowed at least two earned runs in each of his past two starts. He will look to build up to four innings against the White Sox.
Kenley Jansen, Corey Knebel, James Pazos and Scott Alexander are also scheduled to appear in Tuesday’s game.
The start is also a fourth of the spring for Giolito, who has allowed just one run and recorded 11 strikeouts over nine innings pitched. Giolito went four scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers in his last start.
The right-hander faces a Dodgers lineup with Chris Taylor in the leadoff spot and Gavin Lux batting second. Both figure to play a key role for L.A. this season, with Lux seemingly on track to earn the starting job at second base.
