Spring Training Preview: Dodgers, Rangers Play For Final Time

The Los Angeles Dodgers face the Texas Rangers on Friday in a night game turned into an afternoon affair due to a lighting issue at Camelback Ranch. Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants was also changed to a 1:05 p.m. PT start time.

Julio Urias takes the mound for his fourth start of the spring and looks to bounce back from a bit of a rough outing against the Kansas City Royals. He allowed five runs but only one earned in 2.1 innings pitched.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts felt Urias pitched better than the overall results suggested from an 8-4 loss, and that notion was supported by his five strikeouts.

Although each of Urias’ appearances this spring thus far have been in the form of a start, he has not been informed by the team what his role will be come the regular season. Nevertheless, Urias figures to be in the Opening Day rotation, particularly with David Price open to becoming a relief pitcher.

Unlike Clayton Kershaw and Price from the past two games, Urias will not bat for himself. Jimmy Nelson, Kenley Jansen, Blake Treinen, James Pazos and Enny Romero are scheduled to appear during the nine-inning game.

The Rangers are also using as a designated hitter for Kyle Cody in what’s his fourth Cactus League game but only second start. Cody allowed two runs on four hits when he threw two innings out of the bullpen against the Dodgers on March 7.

The Dodgers have reached the point of playing most of their regulars multiple days in a row. Though one change within that for Justin Turner is being slotted in as DH, which has Edwin Rios starting at third base.

L.A. lost to Texas at Surprise Stadium in their first meeting this year.
